Bindjei Bindjei 1960
The strain was isolated from a patient in Indonesia in the 1930's by Sarditjo and later studied by Addamiano (1959) and Addamiano, Babudieri and Smith (1960). Addamiano described the strain as a 'complete biotype' of L. Canicola, no serovar name is mentioned. Only the following study by Addamiano et al. (1960) suggested the serovar name bindjei, ref. strain Bindjei. It appears in the list of 1965 (WHO, 1965) as a recognized serovar.
The strain was submitted to factor analysis and it was suggested that it should be placed in the subgroup Canicola (Kmety, 1967).
