Claytoni 1348 U 1982
The strain was isolated from the urine of a spiny rat (Proechimys semispinosus) caught in the Panama Canal Zone by Gale (1966) and typed by Galton (WHO, 1967).
It was included in the serovar list of 1967 as a recognized new serovar claytoni, reference strain LT 818, although no description had been published at that time. The isolation and the description of the strain first appeared in 1982 (Sulzer et al., 1982). In this publication the name of the strain is given as 1348 U, which therefore replaces the previous designation LT 818.
