Jules

Jules Jules 1958

The strain was isolated from the blood of a patient in Zaire (formerly Belgium Congo) between the years 1952-1953 (van Riel et al., 1956). Wolff and Bohlander (1958) studied the strain and found it to represent a new serovar which they named jules. The strain is mentioned in the Second Report of a joint WHO/FAO Expert Committee on Zoonoses (1959) with a note to indicate that it should be "provisionally classified pending further work".
The strain was submitted to factor analysis by Kmety (1977) who on the basis of the results suggested that it should be placed in a subgroup to be named Borincana.
