Costa Rica

Leptospira strain INCIENSA 04 was isolated from a hospitalized leptospirosis patient in the province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The isolate produced agglutination titers notably against members of serogroup Pyrogenes. Therefore INCIENSA 04 was considered to represent a new serovar, designated Costa Rica of the serogroup Pyrogenes. Multilocus sequence genotyping revealed that strain INCIENSA 04 belongs to Leptospira santarosai.

Remark: the abstract of the original paper mentions serogroup Tarassovi for this serovar, however it must be Pyrogenes.
